Strategic Foci and Strategic Objectives

Strategic Focus 1: Support to DPOs

We need to build the capacity of our member groups in the various aspects of organisation management, advocacy, resource mobilisation and internal controls. As the national umbrella body and as part of our strategic objectives we shall seek alliances with partners/stakeholders who have similar strategies of capacity building to empower our member organisations. We shall strengthen the capacity of our member organizations to advocate at county levels for disability inclusion and monitor rights of PWDs at their regions.

Strategic Objectives

  1. To increase authenticity and capacities of DPOs and persons with disabilities to effectively represent and advocate for their rights at national and county levels
  2. Institutional strengthening of DPOs to meet their mandate of advocating and demanding for their rights and services from service providers
  3. To strengthen the capacity of DPOs to effectively monitor the rights of PWDs

Strategic Focus 2: Support to DPOs

There is a need for enhanced rapid response by the disability fraternity on current national agendas like introduction of new regulations and rules in various sectors at national and county levels, the general elections in 2017 and National Census due in August 2019. These issues require our immediate reaction as the voice of the PWDs. UDPK will work with DCIC and KEDIPA to quicken the decision making process in deliberating on advocacy issues. We need to be vigorously involved in the processes of policy and legislation formulation.

There is a need for UDPK to establish itself very strongly in the area of the policy formulation, so that relevant bodies can seek our indulgence during the processes.

There is a great need to check on policy makers, users and service providers for quality provision to the PWDs. We shall be working with the National Council for persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and all relevant stakeholders to ensure our member organisations are receiving the best quality services.

Strategic Objectives

  1. To work with authorities at all levels to ensure inclusion in policy framework development (laws, legislation, and regulations) and implementation.
  2. To lobby for the enactment of laws and policies that is responsive to the needs of persons with disabilities.
  3. To lobby and sensitize duty bearers and service providers to be able to provide inclusive services.
  4. To promote participation and representation of persons with disabilities in governance structures.

Strategic Focus 3: Social Inclusion and Non-Disabling Society

As an umbrella organization UDPK will disseminate information to the general public to reduce stigma and discrimination towards PWDs. UDPK will target duty bearers, service providers, the general public and PWDs themselves to ensure there is inclusion of PWDs.

Strategic objectives

  1. To educate, create awareness and encourage a non-disabling society by changing attitudes towards PWDs and enabling social participation by all.
  2. Create public awareness on disability and Strategic objectives
  3. Institutional strengthening of DPOs to meet their mandate of advocating and demanding for their rights and services from service providers
  4. To strengthen the capacity of DPOs to effectively monitor the rights of PWDs
